The SU carburettors fitted to the classic Mini engine have a variable venturi, which means the intake of air and fuel varies as the engine revs increase. Unfortunately unlike a fixed jet carburettor the SU carb will go out of tune quicker and wear more.

As the SU carburettor needle and jet wears a richer fuel mixture occurs and the spark plugs get fouled up and that’s when tuning is required.

The classic Mini engine can produce clean emissions and good economy and performance but only when all the ignition and carburettor tuning data is within specification and engine wear is within tolerance.

We use a high specification Crypton five gas analyser to  show how much fuel is being used by the engine and how much harmful waist is being released into the atmosphere, oxygen levels and Lambda gasses provide a clear picture how much wear is on the engine and ignition & carburettors.
